Age Limit:-

The age limit of the candidate will be calculated on the basis of date 01.08.2025, however, those candidates who possess the maximum age limit as prescribed by the Government on 01.08.2023 and possess the educational qualifications prescribed till that date, will also be eligible for this examination on the basis of age limit in the light of letter no. 212, dated 23.01.2006 of the General Administration Department.


Selection Process:-

Nature of examination: Objective.

  • In accordance with the Bihar Staff Selection Commission Examination Conduct Rules, 2010, a preliminary examination will be held if more than 40,000 applications are received. If a large number of applications are received, the preliminary examination may be conducted in more than one phase. In the event of multiple phases of the examination, the results will be prepared using a process of equalization.
  • The written examination will be objective in nature. Candidates selected through the written examination will be shortlisted for the practical examination (Skill Test).
  • Among the candidates securing equal marks, the candidate having higher age as per date of birth will be placed higher in the merit list and similarly, in case of equal marks and same age, they will be placed in the merit list on the basis of ascending order (A to Z) of the English alphabet of the name of the candidate.
  • There will be one paper of General Knowledge in the written examination, which will have the following subjects:-

(a) General Studies

(b) General Science and Mathematics

(c) Mental Ability Test 


The questions will be objective and multiple-choice. The total number of questions will be 150. Each correct answer will carry 4 marks, and one mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. The exam will last 2 hours and 15 minutes. The medium of the written examination will be Hindi/English. 



Syllabus:- The syllabus for the written examination is as follows-

Section (A) 

  • General Studies – Questions in this section will be aimed at assessing the candidate’s general knowledge of the environment around them and their application to society. Questions will also include questions on matters that an educated person is expected to be familiar with, such as current events and the critical observation of everyday events and a scientific approach to them. Questions may also be asked specifically about Bihar, India, and its neighboring countries.
  • Current Affairs: Scientific advancements, National/International awards, Indian languages, books, scripts, capitals, currency, sportspersons, important events.

India and its neighbouring countries. History of neighbouring countries, Indian history, culture, geography, economic scenario, freedom movement, salient features of Indian agriculture and natural resources, Indian Constitution and polity, political system of the country, Panchayati Raj, community development, five year plans and contribution of Bihar in the national movement.

Section (B) 

  • General Science and Mathematics: Generally, questions can be asked from the following subjects of Matriculation level.
  • General Science: Basic questions from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and knowledge of Computer Basics/Word Processing.
  • Mathematics: Questions relating to number system, computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions, interrelationship between numbers, basic arithmetic operations, percentage, ratio and proportion, average, interest, and profit and loss.

Section (C) 

  • Mental Ability Test:

Questions of both verbal and non-verbal type may be asked.

Such as analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, problem solving, analysis, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetic reasoning, arithmetic number series, coding and decoding, series, classification, mirror image, hidden figure, picture matrix, paper cutting, group images, shape formation, cubes and dice, analogy, analytical reasoning, water image, pattern completion, paper folds, rule identification, dot position, picture formation and analysis.

  • Practical Screening Tests:

In the shorthand test, it will be necessary to write a total of 320 (three hundred twenty) words in code script in the notebook provided at the speed of 80 (eighty) words per minute for Hindi and English dictation in the duration of 04 (four) minutes (1 minute extra time for dictation writing in the beginning). After the prescribed dictation, 02 minutes extra time will be given for correction. A total of 20 (twenty) minutes will be given for typing the dictation written passage.

Typing Test (English & Hindi) will be conducted on Computer.

Mangal font in Remington Gail Keyboard Layout will be used in Hindi Typing Test.
